Skytree Scientific® Training
Professional Training for Better Lightning Risk Decisions
Build the knowledge behind the assessment, not just the ability to operate the software.
Skytree Scientific® training helps engineering and technical teams strengthen their understanding of lightning risk, international standards and defensible assessment practices. From practical LRAplus® platform training to instructor-led professional education, programs can be matched to your team’s experience and objectives.

Our Story
Standards First.
Software Second.
Effective lightning risk assessment requires more than entering information into software. Our professional training is designed to help participants understand the methodology behind the result so they can evaluate assumptions, recognize common assessment errors and communicate their conclusions with confidence.
Where appropriate, participants work through the assessment methodology before applying it in LRAplus®. This connects standards knowledge with a practical workflow while reinforcing transparent, traceable and defensible risk assessment.

Lightning Risk Assessment Professional Training.
Understand the Method. Defend the Result.
Lightning risk assessment is not simply a calculation. Inputs, assumptions, structure definition, data quality and the selection of protection measures can materially affect the result. This program develops a practical understanding of the assessment process so participants can perform, review and communicate lightning risk assessments with greater confidence.
What participants will learn:
Lightning & Standards
- Physical basis of lightning and relevant damage mechanisms
- How the IEC 62305 series fits together
- Role of IEC 62305-2 in the assessment process
- Key changes introduced in IEC 62305-2:2024 Edition 3
Lightning Data & Assessment Inputs
- How ground strike point density (NSG) is derived
- Why lightning-location-system data quality matters
- Defining structures and zones
- Assigning information required for the assessment
Risk & Protection Measures
- How collection areas influence the assessment
- Loss values
- Protection measures
- How assumptions influence calculated risk
- Reviewing and questioning results
Practical Assessment
- Work through a standards-based assessment
- Reproduce the assessment in LRAplus®

What is the difference between LRAplus® Platform Training and Lightning Risk Assessment Professional Training?
LRAplus® Platform Training focuses on using the software effectively, including creating assessments, navigating the workflow, evaluating results and producing reports.
Lightning Risk Assessment Professional Training is standards-first. It focuses on the principles, data, methodology and engineering considerations behind lightning risk assessment, with LRAplus used as a practical tool for applying those concepts.
Do I need to be an LRAplus® customer to attend the professional training?
No. Lightning Risk Assessment Professional Training is designed to build practical knowledge of standards-based lightning risk assessment and is not limited to current LRAplus customers.
Where appropriate, LRAplus may be used during training to demonstrate how assessment methodology can be applied in practice.
Which standards are covered during the training?
Professional training currently focuses on the IEC 62305 series, with particular emphasis on the risk assessment methodology in IEC 62305-2:2024, Edition 3.
The specific standards and topics covered may vary based on the training program and the needs of the participating team.
Will participants work with LRAplus® during the training?
Yes, where appropriate. Participants may use LRAplus to apply concepts covered during professional training, connecting standards and methodology with a practical assessment workflow.
The objective is not simply to learn the software, but to understand the reasoning behind the assessment, including inputs, assumptions, results and reporting.
Can the training be tailored to our team, industry, or jurisdiction?
Yes. Professional training can be adapted based on your team’s experience, objectives and the standards applicable to your work.
Contact us to discuss your requirements and we can determine the appropriate training scope.
Who is the training designed for?
Training is designed for engineering and technical professionals involved in lightning risk assessment, protection planning or related decision-making, including engineers, consultants, EPC and MEP teams, lightning protection professionals and other technical stakeholders.
Programs can be matched to different levels of experience, from teams developing their understanding of risk assessment methodology to experienced professionals looking to strengthen their application of current standards.
Is training available virtually or onsite?
Training delivery is arranged based on the program and participating team. Contact us to discuss your training requirements, location and preferred delivery format.
How long are the training programs?
Program length depends on the training scope, participant experience and learning objectives. We work with each organization to determine an appropriate format and schedule.
